Faking it - Hitting the Bottle

I don't know about anyone else but continual dark mornings followed by dark evenings are wearing a bit thin. I have found myself craving sunshine and have spent the weekend wandering the high street searching for a hint of a spring collection somewhere! I find myself day dreaming about sunshine and a temperature above freezing. In light of my present mood I have decided to treat myself to a bit of summer in February.

St Tropez is incorporated into my weekly routine in summer, I don't know what it is about having a tan that makes you feel a bit nicer about yourself. It makes me feel slimmer and I don't need as much makeup. A lot of people are divided in the self tan / sans self tan debate. I personally think whatever makes you feel good. There are so many formulas out there for all different skin types that you are bound to find something that works for you.

No matter what self tan product you are using there are a few golden rules to stick to before applying your layer of summer sun ;

1. The night before make sure you exfoliate, dead skin cells equal a patchy tan. Pay attention to the elbows feet the neck.

2. Fully moisturise the night before (24 hours) from top to toe.

3. On the day you are tanning only moisturise your feet, elbows and knees. Rub Vaseline or an intensive moisturiser around the hairline and on the eyebrows.

TIP - if you have open pores or spots hold a cold flannel or sponge
over your face to close them up, this stops the fake tan from darkening them.

4. Using your applicator of choice (mitt,gloves, sponge etc) apply using long upward motions in a timely manner starting with your face and working your way down. I feel that a mitt works best for an even tan.

5.when tanning hands and feet don't apply anymore product just use the excess.

6. After you have applied your tan its advisable to wear loose dark clothes so that the tan doesn't gather or create marks.

Once you have tanned its important to maintain so it doesn't go patchy, gentle exfoliation and moisturising daily is key to keeping it looking natural.
